    Default Eastern Yellow Robin

    Attached Images Attached Images

Eastern Yellow Robin photographed near Nerriga, NSW.
    Canon 7D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4 tc, tripod, Evaluative, Av, ISO 800, f/8, 1/125.
Cropped from horizontal image, a bit of canvas added to top, and same pale areas in background disguised. Neat Image noise reduction applied.

I'm not sure about the crop - what do you think?

Beautiful bird, good angle and eye contact. I also like perch and BG. There seems to be some color cast and I would desaturate the yellows a few points and go for a wider crop. How do you like the 7D so far?

Thanks Axel, happy so far with 7D, heaps of resolution and I seem to be able to push further up the ISO levels, which is what I tried here. Any noise seems easily controlled with NR add-ons. I am stepping up from 40D, so there are quite a few more AF settings to master, so I am still experimenting there. Ergonomically it's much better. I especially like how you can intuitively control settings from the rear lcd screen, in a cursor like way. I never really came to grips with the buttons across the top near the shutter - AF, ISO etc. Also Auto ISO seems to work quite well ranging from 100 to 3200, although I'm yet to trust those high levels so far.

Very nice looking Robin with excellent detail, I also think a wider crop would work better,

I like everything about this. The head has a blue/grey cast, but I am not familliar with this bird so it may be normal. I like tight crops, at least for small web images. Otherwise you can't see any detail.

Thanks, Simon! I look forward to seeing more images made with the 7D.

Simon, Nice bird, pose and HA. I like the perch also. The crop seems a bit tight. I am considering an upgrade from the 40D and am quite anxious to hear and see more about the 7D. (esp. the noise or lack of it hopefully)So TFS!!

Nice exposure, sharpness, and BG. I agree on the wider crop, and might tone down the lichen on the BG.

Loverly bird and the image quality looks superb. Lots of right-on comments above though I do not mind it as presented. Thanks for the info on the 7D; look forward to more.

Crazy colors! Was looking for it in the North America Sibley before recognizing that it's from Australia. Congrats.

Second impression was that it might just be a bit soft around the eyes/beak. But probably nitpicking...

Nice sharp image in low light Simon.
The two different lichens on a weathered perch add interest.
I'm sure a wider crop would also work well but I like this as presented.

Beautiful capture of one of our more common bushbirds. I like it as presented, yellows look good for my taste. I would only lighten the eye just a little.
