    Default Nobel Prize for Physics

We Canadians occasionally have to set the record straight! Despite reports (Associated Press among others) that the co-inventor of the CCD- Willard Boyle- and one of the winners of the 2009 Nobel prize for physics, is "American", he was in fact born just down the road in Amherst, Nova Scotia. And he didn't leave Canada when he was 2 months old either!

People can get very possessive when it comes to this topic. :)

Perhaps more relevant to this community is that 2 of the 3 winners received the Nobel Prize for the invention of the CCD sensor while at Bell labs. This truly is the fundamental invention which enabled digital photography among many others. I like that this year's NP honored inventions and discoveries which had a true and deep impact on technology and people's daily lives.

Interesting, physics prize this year goes to applied/industrial physics. Does not happen too often.
    That's good news...
