    Default Wedge tailed Eagle portrait

Some of you may have seen this on another forum but I could not resist using it for my first post on here.
Still one of my favorite images as well as being a great bird of prey experience (getting close to these guys is very difficult.) I can only go downhill from here.:o
Great site and a very high standard on here, look forward to getting to know everyone.

Taken in Little River, Victoria, Australia

G'day Paul - Wonderfully intense stare, were you doing a dead rabbit impression?

    cheers

No but I had to crawl on my belly for about 100 metres through horse **** and gravel.
Maybe I smelled like a dead rabbit!!

Welcome! Super powerfull image, nice detail, colors, sharpness, species and tight framing works good IMO. I would only be tempted to ad a catchlight to the eye on the right :) Congratulations!

Welcome to BPN! Good job crawling through the dirty stuff to get close. Nice colours, and love what looks like windswept feathers. The stare is quite intense - I'm not sure this guy is too thrilled with your presence :-) Lots of personality here!! A bit more room left and top would have been nice.

I do wish the bird's left eye (our right) was better lit. It also looks like you had room to raise the ISO in order to stop down for better DOF (I usually don't mind narrow DOF when the eyes are sharp, but the eagle's body occupies so much real estate at lower half that it would have been nice to see those feathers in focus)

P.S. We like to refer to our users by their real names, you can PM Al Forns for him to change your user name to your real one :-)

Again, welcome aboard and hope to see more from you!

    Welcome Paul
I have seen this on Naturescapes and it still impresses me mate as it did there. Well done with your dedicated approach; a photog after my own heart. I think there is no other forum anywhere (especially in OZ) where you can learn as much as right here on BPN - a very talented bunch. This is a great portrait that will stand the test of time. If anyone even mentions light direction, they have no idea of the hardship you had to endure to capture this majestic image! The only thing agreed upon is the DOF, which you could have improved, but in the heat of the moment..... :)

    Congrats!

Thanks for the comments all. Don't think I'll ever get this close to a wedge tail again but fingers crossed.
