I took this yesterday... the settings were -

    40D, Sigma 50-500mm @ 500mm hand held
1/500 sec, f/8 Mode: Av Metering: Evaluative Exp comp: +1/3 ISO: 400

Straightened, cropped, adjusted levels and saturation, applied NR and usm. Your c&c will be appreciated.

    Indranil:

An attractive fellow. The light was a little on the harsh side and well off to your right, but the HA towards you a bit did help make the best of that. Sharp, with nice catchlight. Perhaps a slightly lower shooting angle if the BG would allow. I might try to tone the whites a little.

    Thanks!

Indranil, Beautiful feather details. I might tone down the whites as Randy suggested. Good sharpness and I don't have any images of Kildeer but am hoping to soon.

Very nice composition and eye contact. Agree with Randy on toning down the whites.

Thanks for all the feedback. This is the closest I have been to a killdeer! I took this from behind a tree close to the ground. The mudflats were further down, so this is the lowest I could go. Here is a repost with toned down whites...
