    Default Down the Hatch

One from the Summer. in my garden where I witnessed mum and dad Blackbird bring up 3 broods. Mum was a bit shy but Dad and I got on famously and he was often sitting on the fence outside my backdoor waiting for the morning seed run. I still see him most days and I am sure he understands everything I say to him :)

    Canon 50D, 500mm, f4, 1/1000, iso400, quite large crop

Be brutal, I can take it :)

Nice timing! I feel that limited DOF is the limiting factor in this image. Because the two birds aren't in the same plane, which works well to show the chicks mouth, you needed more DOF to handle both birds. With this lighting I suspect you could have pushed the ISO to give some more aperture flexibility.

The image looks a bit soft on my monitor. The yellows look a bit hot.

    I like the composition.

    Cheers

Nice capture, I like the expression of the young blackbird. Cute!

But the DOF is too narrow for my taste, as the bird on the right is not sharp. It also looks like tried to sharpen a not-so-sharp original picture. I also wonder how much you did crop the original picture? The food in the bill is overexposed.

    I hope I wasn't too brutal ;)

Very nice capture of this moment, must be great to have friendly neighbors like these. I agree on toning down the beaks and food item. Desaturating the yellows a few points would be good, too. Moving a bit to your left and stopping down more would have been an option.

    Tell,

Randy and Axel already covered the issues.

Looks like focus was just a bit off on both birds. Yellows do need toning down.
Your timing was definitely spot on though.
