Coquille River Lighthouse, Bandon, Oregon
The Coquille River Lighthouse was abandoned in 1939 in favor of an automated light at the end of the jetty and an off-shore buoy, but the it remains open today as a museum to the light-keepers of the past. It lay abandoned until the Bullard Beach State Park as formed. Extensive restoration has tried to get it back to its previous glory but it is a tough battle due to the constant pounding by the elements. The yellow paint is actually a bone of contention between the restorationists and the locales who believe the correct color should be white. It is a peaceful, but windy and almost constantly overcast, place to visit.
