    Default Red-tailed Hawk on post

    wild bird, human fence post
Canon 40D, 500mm f4, and 1.4xII on beanbag from car, fill flash -2, ISO 800, F8, light snow

Basically full frame, this is my first hawk encounter where it did not fly away when I stopped the car. Perhaps very interested in looking for the next meal.

    Hi Jeff

Really nice shot, and nice to see weather is not always bright sunshine over there :D

Were you using high speed sync on the flash or was it shot at 1/250 or less and did you use a better beamer or were you close enough not to need one?.

A beautiful hawk on a very nice perch....and I love the blowing snow. Colors look really good and it has a smooth, painterly appearance. Normally I'd like a little more eye contact but somehow the look works because of the snowflakes.

I like the eye and head position, as if it is trying to hide from the blowing snow. Well done on all accounts. Excellent color and chest details.
