Hi Bill - You have a good HA and eye contact and the BG is not bad - feels just a tad dark to me - might try setting a black and white point in P.S. and sharpen the eye a tad.
SS a little slow at the focal length - but have done well looks pretty sharp.

The perch and the HA of the bird is great, and well composed. The bg takes away from it though as the bird gets lost in it.

Like the HA and like the BG, if you lighten the bird a bit maybe the BG would work better IMO. Great job, TFS:)

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I'm swamped at work right now, but later today I'll see if I can work a bit on the background etc.

I've darkened the background a bit in this version. Don't know if it helps much. Thanks again for your comments.

Or perhaps darken and brighten the bird more ? I found the bird a tad too dark. It looks like to me the bird was in the shade while a large part of the perch and the background was fairly well-lit.

I also found some could be cropped from the left.

    So here's another option.

Desmond, thanks for showing your rework of the image. It certainly makes the bird stand out more.
