With shorebirds being among my favorite subjects, combined with the fact I've only had three individuals worth photographing this fall you can bet I will milk those opportunities most I can...so here's another of the Dunlin encounter from two weekends ago:) The bill's shadow was lighten in PS, and the brightest highlights in the water were toned down using the clone tool (soft brush, 25% opacity).
Canon 40D + 100-400L @200mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/7.1, ISO 400, +0.3 EC, natural light, handheld, full frame.
A nicely executed image, the tippy toes posture makes it for me. Nice techs, shooting angle, angle of bird in frame, exposure and sharpness.
I like the large bubbles in the BG, add interest, without being distracting. I believe toning down the highlights was the proper move, and might even hit the cluster of four on the left edge one more time.
How long did it take you to climb out of the hole you dug to get this angle? :)
