taken with 40d and 300 f/4 L non-IS and 1.4x. iso 640. f/5.6. 1/200s. over-exposed half a stop during raw conversion in DPP. USM on bird. NR on BG.
One of the rare occasions that I could not get an higher angle. The egret was on a dam and I was at the lower level. I did not keep room for virtual feet as there was some ugly-looking stuff there. I can, I guess, make a canvas at the bottom. The BG is an ugly sunlit wall. I should do NR more aggressively on the BG, I think. The conditions were a little dark. And I had to underexpose the image in-camea in the interest of shutter speed. Pulling it up later in DPP created tons of noise.
I realize that HA is a little different. But I kinda like it. It gives a feeling that the bird is not aware of me. And since the whole beak is sharp, I don't think it hurts the image. What do you think?
The HA doesn't bother me as the intensenss in his eyes leaves me wondering what he is fixated on. Nice job with the exposure and the light gives his plumage a soft feel. Wish for room below for the virtual feet.
Nice low angle. I personally wish for a better HA. As for the legs, others may feel otherwise, but I don't mind the crop. To me the legs are well cut, rather than the feet being clipped. Adding canvas to include the rest of the legs, then the feet, then more room below the feet would just create a way to large OOF FG to make it work IMO.
I agree about a better HA, it would've made a difference here IMO. BG loos very nice and expposure looks good too, the virtual legs issue could be improved by adding more canvas to the bottom if that is Ok with you.
Congratulations.
