Took this in the Cairngorms, Scotland. Took me three hours to hike up to this point, from the Sky Lift car park. Cold as ****, dull and gloomy and when got to the corrie, no bird in site. After listening out, their calls gave their position away. One of those times, when I had to watch each step taken, snow in the face and loving it. Not sure about the bg shapes and ask whether worth working on to reduce shape further. (NR on bg only). Nearly ff. D300 & 500 AF-S II. 1/250 f5.6 ISO 500, monopod. CS4 and practicing on Refine Edge and Quick selection tool.

    Hi David,

i do think you have a wonderful image of a wonderful subject you don't see too often around BPN!

however, i do think i would try and smooth out the BG somewhat.

    thanks for posting!

    ps....love those feathery legs!

    Hi David,

Well worth the walk. I would crop tighter and that would help remove some of the angular edges in the background.

Fantastic bird and perch, the whites are excellent, EXP, SH great. The scenery is what makes the image.
I would tone down the big dark patch on the middle right side, it would do good to already great image IMO.
    Congratulations!

Beautiful bird and the hike sounds great! I like that you put the bird in the corner.Might smooth down the one sharp edge. Nicely done.

Loved it. I would try a pano crop taking some room off the top, but it sure works for me. Congratulaitons!

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Appreciated. :):). Done a repost with an adjustment on the crop and a tickle on that sharp point.

Hi David, I like the repost best as the subject is a little larger, I admire your stamina and wish I could hike for 3 hours :) The bg is a little eye catching and I would try and tone it down a little, having said that its a very nice capture of a elusive subject - well done :)
