I love taking pictures but am somewhat less keen on editing so just ran a trial of all the quick fixes in Picasa 3 and PSE 5.02.
The standout for me was PSE Color Correction, possibly with a bit of fine tuning.
Here is original resized only image.
    Details: Pentax K10D with Tamron 70-300 @ 133mm.
400 ISO 1/250 @ F8, minus 0.5 EV. Shade setting, multi segment metered.

    Ian,

    Here is a PS3 turnup.

Levels, expand highlights to open up the tonal range as highlights were well into the midtones. Again in Levels, I adjusted the gamma slider (middle one for gray tones) increase the images luminance to what I consider normal for this image (subjective determination).

Curves, using the Linear Contrast preset (small s-curve adjustment).

I find the blue sky and overall tonality better in the PS version.

    Nicely done Robert.
    Much cleaner whites.
Guess there are no guaranteed quick fixes !!!
Will just have to persevere with fine tuning of various editing steps.
    Cheers: Ian Mc
