Hi Everyone,
Hope you are having a greate weekend. Just finished spending the day at East Sooke Park near Victoria B.C. photographing the raptor migration. Mostly Turkey Vultures coming through right now but mixed in for good measure are some other raptors like this lovely Red Tailed Hawk. Apparently they use the cliffs at the park as a staging area to catch thermals before continuing south. It was real windy today so all the raptors were having difficulty getting across the straights to Washington.
Camera Stats: Canon 50D, 500mm F/4L, ISO 800 with +2/3 EC, 1/500sec at F/8.
Thanks for your comments.
P.S. - Yes, that is the real sky not a fake background :)
Lovely plumage details and eye contact, Steve. Seems to have a cool cast. Tried a warming filter which eliminates what I am seeing - not sure how this looks to one who was actually there. Could mask it to the bird if you prefer the original blue sky.
Hi Tony and Harshad,
Thanks for your comments. I went back and tried to narrow it down as to what caused the blue cast. It is difficult to see right away but now you show me a comparison I can see what the color should look like. I tried the "Punch" preset on Adobe Lightroom to give the details a boost and used Vivesa to take out some overexposure on the bird's upper flank and it seems to have changed from that point on. Also may need to calibrate this monitor as it is new and could be off a bit.
Here is a comprimise with the bird changed but not the sky.
Take care,
Steve
