This bird was one of a small covey that were seeking shade in a dry river bed in inland Queensland. The crest of this ground dwelling pigeon can lead to composition quandries. I've gone horizontal - what do you think?

Very interesting looking bird. Nicely exposed. I like the horizontal crop; I think the bottom rock helps witht he horizontal. Well done Dave

Lovely shot Rob, I've not yet been able to get a clean shot of these so I'm envious! I think a square crop with the bird to the left works better.

Looks nice and sharp with lovely colours. Would try darkening down the bright sunlit areas as they pull the eye away from the bird.

Now I know WHO stole my hair gel. :D
Seriously, a great looking Aussie this one! I would definitely go for a vertical because the only distracting element(s) I see is the bright sand areas and cropping would at least pretty much eliminate the RHS patch.

    Rob,
I have never seen a pigeon like this before! It certainly has our local pigeons beat for personality. Great feather detail and light. I might consider blurring the background a bit as I find the roots and texture is drawing my eye. Or as others have suggested to make it a vertical crop. Still a great shot either way.
