    Default Starling Blur

    Hi,

On recent trips as the evening light starts to fade I have been trying a lot of blurs, well it's very hit and miss (mostly miss!), but this is one of the best. It's of a medium sized flock of Starlings displaying before they settle into the reedbeds to roost.

    Canon 20D, 400mm 5.6
    1/15 sec, f/14, ISO 100
    Tv mode, EC +2

Minimal image processing, very slight crop from top of the frame.

I think the biggest problem to me about this photo is the birds are too small in the image. Would be better if you were able to get closer or they were bigger birds. Good try anyhow !

Nice avian/abstract, I like the concept. Bigger birds or more of them might make the image stronger, still cool picture. Blurs are really mostly about feel anyway.

    Hi Julian,
I like what you were trying to do, I like the blur, but the birds need to be a tad bigger in frame...keep them coming...:)

Thank you everyone for your comments. I shall keep at it.

It will be interesting what blurs I produce once these flocks get to their largest in November when there are often 20,000 to 30,000 birds all displaying at the same time. ( For anyone interested there's a good video about this on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH-groCeKbE )
