I got up early on Sept. 4 and photographed the sunrise from top of Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park, Maine. This is where the sun makes its first appearance on the east coast of the United States. The base photo was taken at 6:18 a.m., two minutes after sunrise.
In this image, I wanted to portray the warm arching sky-glow of the sunrise, the soft illumination of the granite slopes of the mountain and the calm waters of Frenchman's Bay below.
Base photo: Canon EOS 5D, 47 mm, ISO 100, f/4, 1/500 sec
Post: ColorEfexPro Detail Stylizer on separate layer (pop art), vivid light mix, opacity about 55%, then flatttened, then PS filter -> Artistic -> watercolor adjusted to taste.
Keith, I just went to Acadia for the first time this July. I went to the top of Cadillac Mountain and took a few shots. Nothing looked like this!! Very nice pop art effect. I might take a slice off the bottom if it were mine. Nicely done.

Agree with Denise about bottom crop, IMO remove about 3/4 of the land area

Hi Keith, I would only remove about a third off the bottom to bring the horizon line off center. I think the foreground has enough interest to keep most of it. In this case the skies patterns becomes very subjective whether they are appealing or not...For my taste I would like it simpler.
Thanks for the suggestions. In the repost I cropped out a little off the foreground so that the horizon line is now below center. But I don't know if I like it better or not. Agree that the ORIG had the horizon line too close to center but then I think I lost some of the interesting structure in the foreground, so it's a puzzler. As for the sky, I like it as is, a little funky.
