This is an immature Carnaby's or Short-billed Black Cockatoo Calytorhynchus latirostris. It is one of the large (55cm) white tailed black cockatoos and is endemic to the south west of Western Australia.
I have many images of this species in it's eucalypt canopy habtat but the trend seems to be for images of birds on sticks.:)
A very nice shot of a terrific subject Tony. I think the perch is fine, and the headturn, pose and detail in the feathers are all great. I would give it a bit more space on top and I do feel that the tree in the BG is a little distracting, merging with the head. I would suggest to clone it out if this doesn't interfere with your personal ethics. Another option would have been, if you would've moved a bit more to the right or left. Good shot in any case
I like the light and posture of the bird and the head is turned just right. The BG has a branch directly behind the head. I suggest that when framing such an image move left and right, up and down and watch how the BG changes so as to select a vantage point w/o disturbing BG clutter or intersections with the bird.
Beautiful capture Tony. I think the branch in the background is a bit distracting and I find so much of the perch a distraction. If it were mine I would crop some off the bottom. Still a great capture with excellent detail and awesome eye contact !! Look forward to seeing more.
