I seem to be a prisoner of my classroom and lab this year thus I have had very little time to get out. I'm giving a presentation this weekend so I decided to rework some previous images. I'm going through a "habitat phase" so I cropped little in this image. I like the effect but then I've been too close to this so let me know.

    Canon 1DMkII, 500mmL IS, 1.4XTC, tripod, 580EX
    f/9, ss 1/500, ISO 200, flash
RAW converted DPP, cropped all around, USM, etc.

Your inclusion of the habitat works well here. The subject is large enough for details.

Beautiful soft colour scheme Lana. If it were mine I might remove the grass in the LLC, but I'd have to see what it looked like. Lovely shot.

    Lovely image!
Perfect example of including habitat that enhances the image without distracting in any way.
Of course, great composition always helps as well!

Only thing I find a bit distracting is whatever is on the lower bill.
Image looks a bit flat. Might try boosting contrast a bit with Curves or try a midtone contrast
    adjustment with USM.

The perfect example of how with a nice comp, you can create a wonderfull image of a bird without getting extremely close :) Lovely light, perch, detail, BG and again, comp.

I really like the wider approach, something I am increasingly striving for too. Great composition and sharpness, I would boost the midtones a bit, and perhaps a bit more saturation?

Ditto Ramons comments. This truly looks like a Lana image. Just gorgeous !!! I love it and particularly the colors of this capture. Just love it.

Yes, a good comp gets you just about there, especially with the inclusion of the enviroment. I agree a little more contrast and some selective sharpening will round this off nicely.
