    Congratulations Steve Caunel
    Prime Contender

    Not quite ready for Summer to depart yet, but I am looking forward to watching and photographing the elk this Fall. This guy looks to be in pretty good shape and ready to contend for the ladies. The sunrise was diffused a bit by some soft clouds and I got off three shots before he took off into the woods. I debated about going with a more centered comp and eliminating the darker tree on the right (as viewed). 40D, 1-400L @ 300mm, f5.6, 1/160s, ISO 1000, +1/3 EC, handheld, slight crop from bottom and left.

    Magnificent animal. Great shot. I think leaving it uncropped was a good choice...give the elk someplace to go.
