How I wished for better light, completely overcast as seen by the high key sky. As I was capturing the shrike at the bottom with his small meal, his mate landed on top. I have tried to bring out the darker plumage. What I like about this is the shape formed by the two tails. Taken in the Kruger National Park this past weekend.

My suggestion would be to birghten the whole thing much more to the point where the sky has no more detail. The natural moment is great and the species I lovely.

Very cool image even if it is a little dark. I really like the way the females wing feathers look like a comb.

Stuart, This is a really interesting moment captured. I am thinking that even with a 50D that +.67 would be nowhere near enough plus with that white a sky.... Loved th crossed tails and the bug.

Thank you all for the great feedback.

Artie, in hindsight, I agree, more + EC would have worked.

Nice! The moment captured is terrific. I like the V shape formed by their tails also.

I like the comp with the tails crossed.
Stu you could also consider spot metering in these circumstances to get the detail in the black feathers..

    Hi Stu,

What a moment you captured here and I think you handled the light very well. Congrats on a very fine image mate.

A great double Stu. I also love the V of the tails and I'm impressed with the detail you captured considering the quality of light. Both birds (and even the prey) are sharp and a great comp too.:)
