    Default American Avocet

This is a relatively lean time for bird photography in New Mexico. The hummers are all but gone and the cranes have not yet arrived. Here's an image from earlier this summer that I kind of liked.

Hi Doug, open beak, visible tongue, I can see why you like it. Your avocets are completely different to ours - ours are mainly black and white. Exposure looks well controlled, and overall, a great inflight capture.

American Avocets hold their own against others ;)
Beautiful shot Doug, I have one exactly like this except for the beak is not open! You managed very well with strong overhead light.

Huh! You call that an Avocet? Where's the curve in the beak, then! :D:D

The light was a little harsh, but I thought the wing position, open bill, and tongue made it worth keeping.
