Finally had a few good shorebird subjects to work with!! I was getting worried for a while as nothing worth photographing had yet to show up this Fall where I like to frequent.
This Sanderling was alone and quite approachable. A simple strategy of lying down near a good spot a waiting for it to stroll by...then repeat if necessary:). I do wish the shoreline would not skim the underbelly.
Canon 40D + 100-400L @275mm, 1/1250s., f/7.1, ISO400, -0.3 EC, natural light, handheld, just about full-frame
I don't really mind the shoreline that much I do wish for a tad better light angle and a better body and herad angle, still, very nice image, nice walking pose and detail, BG and colors.Congratulations!
Dan, I dont believe you could get any lower - great angle of capture. I like the eye contact, and raised left foot. The shoreline doesnt distract, and infact I like the inclusion of bits of seaweed.
Love the dark sand and the blue waters.
275mm - almost FF, that is very close, I have to try that technic.
I do wish for a better body angle, but like it as is.
I like the Comp, colors, angle and sharpness
I can't see why the shoreline would bother you. It was as it was. :) I like it. Don't mind any aspects i.e. HA etc. I think this has great merit as a natural history image. Congrats mate. You WERE close.
I like the use of DOF, walking pose and angle. It looks as if you were pretty low already and don't mind the body/sand overlap. I might reduce the blue saturation in the plumage that is not sunlit.
I like the very low angle and the way the bird is looking right at you. The upraised foot in the "walking" pose is nice. If the head were raised up a bit it would be better, but I like it as is.
