    Default Borneo: Red-Naped Trogon

Back on land in Sepilok, I was taken by surprise by this Red-Naped Trogon at eye level. I did not have time to set my rig up for the darker canopy cover. Luckily I managed to get away with it.

Another stunning image of a stunning species! I'm amazed how you manage to pull of these images at those shutter speeds  The natural light is beautiful

Stunning bird with brilliant coloration! 1100mm and 1/2 second gave you reasonable sharpness...impressive. I'd still probably run another pass of sharpening, particularly on the eye. And I might move the bird slightly to the left in the frame.

Althought the eye doesn't look as sharp as the rest of the body, with the light condition and the preety much ridiculous SS it is amazingly sharp :) Higher ISO would have helped, here IMO. Lovely species and preety nice BG too. Great colors.

Very well done under the circumstances described. The colours are incredible, and I agree moving him to the left will work.

Great work in the dim forest mate. What's wrong with you people using ISO200? Your MkIII is very capable much higher, even 1600. :) Outstanding image in every way. Agree with a bit more sharpening of the eye. :)

Thank you all for your comments.

As mentioned in the original post I was caught by surprise and did not have time to reset my rig - ISO settings and even f/stop et all. It was more than full frame and I had to juggle backwards to fit it in.

No I cannot move the bird to the left and the original shot has nothing more the right - and do not know how to "add canvas" either in pp.

I have started to go without flash these days because even minimal fill flash can change the colours of the feathers of some birds. More practise to improve long lens techniques and slow shutterspeeds then for me!

Thanks again for all your input.

Beautiful bird with outstanding colors. I agree with all the above comments. Only extra suggestion would be to tone down the bright highlights in the BG.
