    Rob:

You can sure see were this birds name came from. When I first viewed the image, I thought you had done a color conversion on it, some sort of sepia effect.

Fun pose with wings out a bit and tail up. Sharp on the head and most of body.

I am slightly distracted by the tan band behind the bird and the interesting but visually distracting perch URC.

It seems to me, that on a bird without color, it is even more important to strive for a simple background, to keep the eye on the subject. I suspect it was cropped this way to keep the bird out of the center of the frame, but I might look at coming in a bit from the left to try to simplify that URC. Even just cloning out that little piece dangling down in the crotch might help.

    Cheers

    Randy

Such a great bird, I love it. The only problem is the URH corner branches.
I think image this good deserves to be improved by getting rid of it.
I hope you don't mind but I did a quick QM work here and cropped a bit.
Not the best quality of work, just to get the idea what can be done.

Not easy to compose this long tailed birds, nice perch, pose, BG, light, detail and sharpness. I wonder if a tad more saturation would help.
    Congratulaitons!

The upright tail makes this image Rob. I like the detail captured, and going on Ilija's comp, I would maybe bring it in more from the right, and add to the top.

Lovely pose & well exposed image. Like llija's crop more.

    I like llija's suggestion.
The bright strip in the BG is a bit disturbing.
I like the sharpness, pose, light and eye contact.

Great little fellas these GFTs. I think the colors are spot on personally. I do think light is a bit harsh, but we have soft light in Oz for very short periods usually. Well by 7am it's allover where I am anyway. Nevertheless, the image conveys the bird's typical habitat and perch likings. I quite like this image Rob. Congrats! My only wish for the OOF BG tree trunk to not have been there. Out of curiosity what time of the day did you make this capture?

    G'day Akos,
You're quite right. It had been cloudy and the sun burst out for about 30 minutes - it was at 3.13pm which is too early in the afternoon normally, but because it had been overcast I was out anyhow and I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass.

    cheers
    Rob

THanks Rob. I agree, never pass an opportunity, good light or not. :)
