Another shot of a preening TriColored Heron. This type of behavior and Herons splashing water going after fish are 2 of my favorite themes.

    Daniel:

An exceptional preening pose, very graphic, lovely lines.

The image needs to be rotated CW about 4 degrees to level it. There is room in the image to do that without clipping, but it would benefit from adding a bit of canvas.

The main issue is the exposure. The whites in the jpeg are completely blown out on the body. I tried a few quick passes because its such a neat image, but couldn't recover any detail.

Def. worth some reconversion work to see if you can get more detail out there.

    Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Love the pose, detail of feathers, and color of water. Agree about rotation and blown whites. Rings around the head in the water are ver cool.

The interesting thing about this photo is the unusual pose, is she trying to pick something from under the wing? Agree that body is hot, maybe you can recover it from RAW.

I love the action very much. Quite unique. Very nice colors on the water.
The whites are blown out do to the relatively dark environment.
    Need a heavy clockwise rotation.

Very neat pose. Randy hit the issues perfectly. This is definitely one of those times that manual metering can save the shot.

Interesting pose, especially with the head turned upwards towards the outstretched wing. Good sharp detail, and I agree regarding the hot whites and rotation. Both easily fixed.

Whites and rotation already discussed. Besides those minor tweaks I absolutely love the different pose. I think you have an excellent image here. :)

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
The image was taken < 1 hour before sunset but the bright sun was directly on the spot the heron was standing on.
