Bella came to us four weeks ago as a 700g young Brush-tailed Possum orphan when we picked her up on the side of the road still clinging onto mom's back even though mom was killed by a motor vehicle. Bella was sweet, gentle until the last week or so when she started to obtain the much required wild characteristics and tried to swipe and bite and hissed at us. Good stuff, that's what she needs to survive. This was taken when we had to use banana to catch her in a pillow case so we can transport her to the next stage of captivity - an aviary adjoining the Blue Mountains National Park and she would be 'soft' released, meaning in a couple of weeks the door will be open and she will be free to go. She will come back for a week or two then most likely disappear into the wilderness forever. No thank yous, no kisses, no hugs. Ah well, but a success story and that is what matters most. :)
