I almost deleted this image in the field then I almost deleted it after I viewed it on the computer. I'm glad I didn't. I did delete the two previous and the one after this burst was shot. I've received a lot of positive responses from people that follow my photography. I'm interested in seeing what other photographers have to say.

truly magnificent show here. glad you really didnt trashed it otherwise i might have to come and search in your trash :)

i like the compo and crop. the splash left behind shows the force of going away the tern. the clarity is really good with the tiny fish visible and i like the way you processed in B&W.

congrats. man My vote for this image.

Cool comp and action. The B/W conversion does work well. I do wish the head was lower in order to see the blocked eye. Does the image need ever so slight CCW rotation? Was the vignetting added during PP?

A slightly better comp would be to crop some off the left so the water disturbance anchors to the frame. Very interesting and arresting image overall for me. A tighter crop from above and below making this into a pano is maybe another option--not that I don't like the water--I do, so as is works for me too. It does seem a little dark overall--did you do a white point levels adjustment? The ONLY thing that kills it for me--to be honest with you--and you asked for that--is that there is no eye. A more frontal view angle would be wished for--but I know how it goes my friend...

I like the composition. The trailing water disturbance with water droplets is nice. The reflection is strong and adds interest. If this were mine I would lighten the bird up a bit as it seems a bit dark to me. In my opinion the bird flying away from you is a minus. The biggest issues is the wing covering the eye.

I really love this one. The B&W works great here, as does the pano crop. Almost seems like a painting. Some might point out the imperfect techs, but I think that the bird flying away actually adds to the image here, and I don't mid not seeing the eye. A piece of art IMO.

Sometimes things don't need technical perfection to present as an artistic image and I really enjoy this one.

I might have a try at this as more of a high key image as well?

    Not sold on the vignetting?

Thank you for the suggestions. The vignetting was added during PP and I agree about it needing a slight ccw rotation...I had to rotate it cw to begin with as it was shot at an odd angle and the bird entered the water at an odd angle from me. I don't like to fuss with images too much or do too much to them in CS3....I did more to this then I normally do so high key may be out of the question.

For me I liked this image with the bird flying away with the water trail behind it..I only wished the reflection was a bit more clear to show the eye in it.

On a second look Duane there are enough strong compositional elements here to make up for the lack of an eye pretty much. Definitely it needs a lightening job and and tweak or two on the crop and rotation IMO. Really a good shot.

I like this a lot. Agree having the eye visible would be a big plus. Going away doesn't bother me much. Vignette works well for me but feel the mid tones need lightening for my taste. Something like this with a very small CCW rotation.
