Took this last evening...the fading light requiring both high ISO and depressing of the shutter only when the subjects held a pose.

It looks good on my 12 in laptop ;) will have to check further when I get home at the end of the month.

I am off to BC in the am...with no IE, etc for a week after tomorrow.

    1Ds Mark III, 500mm w/2x
    Manual, spot, 1/160 @ f/8, ISO 1600
    Post-production- C1 4 Pro from 12 in laptop

See you where there is light, or at the computer

    Best,

    Chas

Pushing the limits just makes it more fun when they turn out. I like the fact you got both eyes visible. I also like the riverside habitat they chose to spar in. If it were mine I'd crop the bottom to just the edge of the darker water (or maybe just to remove the FG rocks). Even though it's natural, the change in texture is too abrupt for me.

Chas, I think the elks look great and perfect positioning on the heads. For my tastes, I think a pano crop is better suited here. I would crop off the bottom above the LR rocks and at the top much of the blue water. This will give the elks more prominence in the image, retain important habitat, remove the distracting rocks in the LR and maintain four levels of layers from the FG to the BG (water, mud, rocks and blue water).

A fine image. A small crop from the top would be better in my opinion.

Beautiful capture Chas and perfect timing. Must have been a sight to experience and I like it as presented. Congratulations.

It did turn out rather well. The pano crop suggestion is a good one. However, I still like it as is.

Really like the catch light in the eyes and the sparring. Very clean image as well.
