A bit of interaction. The Black headed Heron was coming into land, and he obviously upset the Grey Heron who was minding two chicks. In reality, the BH Heron actually flew behind and landed close by. Taken at the grounds of the University of Pretoria.
I am off on a three day weekend tomorrow to the Kruger National Park. Gonna catch me some bears and tigers. I wish - LOL.

Love seeing the two species together! The BH Heron looks good in terms of exposure and sharpness. The light seems a bit harsh especially evident around the nest.

You got good eye contact from the adults and it's nice to see the chicks in the nest. I also like the open bill. I wish the wing position of the flying bird had been better.

    Thanks Brian and Doug.

Brian, regarding the light, I agree, I had to tone down the nest. This was actually taken at 8:05am.

Good interaction Stu. Tack sharp and lovely details. Not bothered about wing position as if taken earlier, (nano sec, :)), bird position and interaction may not have been the same.

A very well timed capture mate. I totally agree with Dave and think you made the most of the moment and conditions. I like the babes in the nest unaware of the possible danger.

Poses and timing are wonderful. Light a bit harsh as mentioned , but still a very nice capture. Not one to be passed up.

Stuart, Nice interaction captured. Not a common shot and the chicks are a bonus. Good luck on your 3 day trip. I'll look for your posts in wildlife!:)

Too bad for you and me that we have such harsh light by 8am. I am in the same shoes. However, I'd much rather capture and image than miss out because I snub the light. It's already poor light for BPN standards here and it's barely past 7:30am Friday. Never mind. Keep at it bro.

Love the interaction and I am sure you would have gotten a better wing position from the heron had it not been applying the brakes. :)

take care in the bush and shoot lots (with your camera that is). :D

Great interaction, exposure, and BG. Light is a tad harsh, but not bad. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of eye contact from the heron on the nest.

    Well Done!

Very nice behavioral shot showing the nest, chicks are so cute! wish too for better wing position on the landing bird and slightly better HA of the perched one, but these are factors you can't control. Very nice shot. TFS
