Love the tack sharp details nd color rendition Mr. Peters. The head angle and crystal clear eye contact are spot on. The hint of green moss on the perch adds character to the entire image, and the yellow/brown background makes him pop out...well done...

Lance - thanks for posting the second (or fourth) image. I looked at the two ETL images side by side and did the puzzle thing about "find all the things that are different." My list of what is different in the two images includes HA, body posture (alert vs relaxed & puffed), perch size, yellow on wing, amount of foot visible, and view of cheek feathers in 3-d.

To me, what the 'bad ha' has going for it is the bird's body language. It is standing erect and alert, so your eye begins at the foot and moves straight up to the dramatic eye. Also think this perch size is perfect.

'Puffy' has the HA and shows off the wonderful cheeks, but loses in some other ways. The yellow of the wing really focuses the viewer's attention. I have read that yellow is the color that grabs one's attention more than any other. In this case, it seems to pull my eye away from the rest of the bird. Perch seems a bit large. And we have less bird spunk here.

    Neat exercise. Thanks

Also let me say that if I had a chance to see and to photograph this bird, I'd be over the moon; and I was able to get any of these captures I'd be totally thrilled and my walls would be filled.
    Cheers

Hi Gail - thanks for the comments - I agree - I tend to prefer the first one as well - even with the less than ideal HA - as you say it has spunk.

Thanks for the kind words :)

This is simply great as was the other one. Hard to choose a favorite. Sometimes the one that is out of regulation is preferred for that reason alone.
