Default 1st post here, Blue Grosbeak

Just found this site today and joined right away. Looking forward to being a part of the discussions here. Since this is my first post here, I thought I would start with some images from the back yard, and work up from there.

    Taken with a D300, 600VR, 1.4tc, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/640 ss.

I have been blessed with a wonderful season thus far with avian images, lots of 1sts for me and some very rare subjects for this part of the country. Looking forward to sharing them with you in the near future.

Welcome :) Interesting combination of colours in that bird. A nice sharp image but are there some artifacts at the back of the head and neck, or do they have brown-tinged feathers there?

Welcome to BPN Jason. You have made an outstanding first post, and we look forward to many more. The colour, sharpness, pose, head angle and background (BG) are all top notch. I would suggest giving the bird a little more room at the top, and to even out the BG at the top right. The "extra" branch on the perch is a little distracting but I can live with it. Very well done!

Thanks for your reply. THey indeed have a brownish gold hint of feathers on the back side of their head.

Thanks for replying John. I will try a re-edit and see how it looks with your suggestions. Appreciate the feedback.

    Jason:

Welcome to BPN. Nice first post, attractive bird. We only have rose breasted grosbeaks in Michigan, so nice to see some other members of the family.

John & Colin hit the tech. points.

    Looking forward to more.

Welcome to BPN Jason! Perfect head angle, and good detail throughout. I agree with John's comments about adding a bit of canvas. All in all a very nice first post!

Welcome to BPN, Jason! Very nice first post, good-looking specimen and good eye contact and light. I agree regarding a wider crop and would run NR on the BG. Keep them coming!

Welcome Jason; beautiful first post. Very nice colors, HA, eye contact, sharpness. I'd also give the BG some more NR and clone out the 2nd part of the perch. Looking forward to see more posts from you.

A fine image of a lovely bird. I especially like the pose, eye contact and plumage detail.

Welcome to BPN and a killer first post man! :) Love it. I'd crop the right side negative space by half if it were mine. :) Thanks for sharing and look forward to more.
