Default PS Elements 7 or CS4

I am looking for some advice. I shoot Nikon. I use NX2 for most of my editing and an old edition of Photoshop elements for cloning ect. I am considering upgrading the elements to 7. What does CS4 add/offer over elements? Is it worth the extra $. Should I quit using NX2 and just use photoshop?

    Thanks Ray :)

CS4 is worth the money. I don't have it but replaced, elements 6 with CS3, and it is a huge improvement. Layers, Quick Masks, the patch tool etc. Elements has none of these. Plus the fact that with elements you can't do most adjustments (including cloning) without first converting to 8-bit.

    I would definitely get CS3 or CS4

Hi, Elements 6 certainly does have Layers and a very easy work around for Quick Mask, personally do not think CS3/4 is worth the extra - just my opinion :)

Ray, I'm not an expert but I have used both elements (version 4) and now use CS4. The price difference is huge and probably a significant factor in your decision. When I did use elements, I didn't feel limited. But, I've since grown as a photographer and am currently learning and using CS4. Now, I think elements would be limited for me (I no longer use it since going with a 64-bit computer). With that, consider where you plan to go with your photography and if you do want to grow, I would recommend making the investment into CS4. On the other hand, elements is not costly and may be just right for now. That's been my personal experience, for what it is worth.

I did as Aidan did and upgraded Elements 6 to CS3. I feel the upgrade was definitely worth it. I too work in NX2 first, but feel the full Photoshop does not limit what I want to do with the Tiff that I save from NX2, especially in working with 16-bit.

I have Elements 1,5, 6 and CS4. The 16bit conversion to 8bit was a pain, and it is true there are limitations, but the real deciding factor was that Elements 6 did not have action scripts(or I could never find it). I have used Corel Photopaint for many years, and part of the work flow often involved self-created scripts, especially for multiple step operations performed on different images. Now with CS4 I use this type action script when ever I can, and it is a real time saver. Time is money.
    regards~Bill
