This adolescent allowed me to approach it during one afternoon. This is one of the kites that prompted me to check the spot for owls at night. Adults are almost impossible to approach without hides but some juveniles were fine. Only on that day. Subsequent visits and they would refuse to cooperate. The young have not yet developed those stunning, penetrating red eyes.

Very nice shot Akos! Excellent detail, colour and lighting and I'm not sure I would have changed anything in that image. It really expresses the soul of the bird!

    Akos:

Lovely colors, exposure and sharpness. Only the light angle and subsequent shadows on the eyes and left side of his face hold this one back.

Do you have any others in this series? Would love to see them.

    Cheers

    Randy

I am envious that you could get this close. I like the look over the shoulder. The detail is very good and I like the composition. I only wish the eye was not partially shaded. I am with Randy show me more!

I still need one of these guys in my gallery. Great close up bro, and I like the feather detail. Its amazing how different the colour of their eyes are, from juvie to adult.
