Image was created in the summer of 2007, near my home in Ohio.I could hear and sometimes barely see something in the brush. I waited for my shot over an hour, and the light was starting to fall. I went from ISO 200 then to 400 and finally made my image at ISO 800, at 1/60 sec.@ f 2.8. Nikon D2Xs with Nikon 70-200mm VR lens.A priority +1/3. I had completely fooled him, on the second exposure the tail, head, and foot raised at the same time. He did 3 foot stomps and left.
Great alert pose. I really like this. Proves you don't have to have a monster buck to make a great photo. Although it looks fine as presented, I wonder if the focus is on the tail instead of the face.
Thanks for the comments. The eyes and face stay nice and sharp on 16 X 20 prints. Fabs Thanks for the suggestion on fixing the over sharp tail. The unsharp mask loves that white tail.
Best,
Howard
Nice image Howard. Great pose, nice 3-D look, nice BG colors. Agree with Milo on the tail looking like the focus point but points about sharpening mentioned above.

I like this compostion Howard. A bit centered but it works with this kind of image. You've given the deer plenty of room to show habitat the sof FG works well and the BG is not to busy. Nice alert pose on your subject and the lighting is very nice... Well done.......
