This image was captured in the middle of a field of sunflowers with a Canon EOS 20D paired with a Canon 100-400IS lens - hand-held. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions you could offer.
Very interesting image. The sunflower against the blue sky and the bird on top is great. I would avoid the green part coming behind the flower on the lower part by cloning it out or going for a close crop around the flower.
I don't mind the dark leaf, only wish the subject was looking into the frame as opposed to looking out of it. There are also some bad sharpening halos around the bird.
Lucky to get such a nice perch. My choice of composition would be as this. I also see the halo. There's a thread on how to avoid halos while sharpening on the Digital Workflow Forum. Exposure is dead on, btw :)
Neat shot. I like the way the bird is standing on the petals rather than behind them. I might've cropped closer to the flower on the left side (as viewed). Did you intentionally compose with the flower cut off (to mimic the rising sun) ?

Think I saw this on another site, Gary. Loved it then and still do! A perfect image for Kansas as the sunflower is our state flower. I would like it just a bit brighter/lighter, and I like Fabs' crop also. Looked at your blog and then the sunflower gallery, and also love the little bird when it was singing!
Thanks all for the feedback and comments. I too like Fab's rework. If I only had a longer lens, but this is as good as I could do with a 100-400IS Lens. :) I did intentially position the bird in the frame and cut off the bottom of the sunflower. I was trying to place the head in the ROT with some negative space in the blue sky.
This is not my printable version and the print version doesn't have any sharpening halos. Thanks again for the ideas and suggestions.
