Sorry to have not been active of late. I finally got a speedlight and Better Beamer, Wimberly flash bracket, etc., and have been dialing them in. Frustrating, but starting to become rewarding. This ruby-throated hummingbird (female unfortunately) was visiting our zinias, and the afternoon light was just about right :)

    A sweet capture Ed,
I like the raised wings, you have fine details and good color rendition, would selective sharpen the eye...and congrats on the new SB-900 speedlight...:D:cool:

Beautiful, Ed!!! Love the pose, and great BG and details. Agree on sharpening the eye a tad. Well done!

    ED,

Good show, did you run NR on BG? What was your subject distance, maybe sharpen the baby a tad - nice work.

Nice work Ed - like the pose and the exposure looks good. Agree with Gus a tad more sharpening on the eye.
Congrats on the speedlight - looking forward to seeing more :)

Looks good Ed !! Would also increase contrast for more punch on the mid tones. We should have several tutorials for selective sharpening You want the bird sharp but not the bg !!!!

Very nice, l like the pose and placement of the bird very much. Agree about sharpening on the bird (around the head more) and reduce noise in the background. I never use PS Element 6, but can it does layer mask? I usually use mask when doing some select work.

Have fun with your new flash.

congrats on the new light!! but i dont think it helped here. your shutter speed was way too fast for it to hit the bird. you need to be down to 1/320s or slower for the light to get to the bird. as you go above 1/320s, you will start to lose light. i doubt any hit the bird at 1/2500s even with the beamer.

great looking bird and nice pose. agree about the contrast and NR on the bg. have fun with the new light!!!!
