The dwarf mongoose is one of Africa's smallest carnivores, measuring about 35 cm (a little over a foot) from nose to tail! They are quite shy and timid, but if you find them at a termite mound, as in this image, they soon settle down and give you an opportunity to take quite a lot of pics.
    Species: Dwarf mongoose (Helogale parvula)
    Location: Kruger NP, South Africa
    Date: July 2009
Equip: Canon 1D Mlll, Canon 500 f4 with 1.4 TC
    Specs: ISO 500, f 7.1, 1/640s, beanbag on vehicle

Thank you for taking the time out to look, and for your comments/ critiques.

This is lovely Ajit. The light and eye contact work really well. My only thought being a snip off the left and top may enhance further... (that's from me who usually likes more space,,,, :)). Lovely shot!

Wonderful animals, pose, and use of d-o-f. Lots of fill flash here would have helped quite a bit as the backlit animals are dark and in need of more fur detail.

Engaging animals crisply presented. I like the psoes and eye contact, and well done getting them both in focus. Noce background too.

I like how you left a large section of negative space above them. That works well here IMO. Agree with the fill-flash suggestion.

Agree fill flash would have made a big difference but the lack of it doesn't take anything away from this image for me. I love the lighting you achieved, love the way it lights the ears especially. I really like the feel of this image.

Always fun to capture these busy guys. I like the comp as is, but must agree with Arthur on the light.
I also think it is a bit oversharpend.
