    Default Success at clamming!

    Attached Images Attached Images

Busy hunting for clams, this Coastal Brown Bear and her cub provided many hours of interest at Katmai in May of last year. She was packing them in before the tide rose and was getting pretty deep and covered in sand in her efforts. This is one of my favourite images from the sequence of shots - I like the combination of eye contact, dripping water and the clam.

Apart from a little crop for composition and some sharpening, the image is as it came. Any suggestions for further improvement would be appreciated.

I would not want to tangle with this fella. Love the look and the captured moment. Your timing was perfect and the drops of water add to this image too. Thanks for sharing Gerald.

I like this one for the same reasons as you. I also like the colors.

Very cool! I can see why this is one of your favorites. I agree that eye contact, dripping water, and the clam combined to make this special. Well done and thanks for sharing.

    Gerald:

Very nice. I might try to smooth out some of the specular reflections in the LUC.

I suspect she had no trouble opening the clams. Surprised it was enough flesh to make it worth their while.

    Thanks for sharing

Randy, On big low tides, these guys are clam-eating machines. The clams are the main component of their diets in some locations for several weeks in June.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback - appreciated.

This lady was one of the clam-eating machines that Artie referred to, and the tide was not particularly low. She was practically snorkeling to get as deep as she could and was very successful. And these clams were enormous!

The trip to Katmai Boat Trip was a fabulous experience that I would recommend anyone to do if they can. I'm still getting a big thrill from it!
