Once again thanks to my good mate Gerrie for the use of his 600mm lens, to create a decent image of these little guys. Taken in the Pilanesberg nature reserve two weekends ago.
What a colorful dude. The indigo looks a bit oversaturated, but I have never seen this guy, so perhaps that is correct. He is sharp, I think the perch is a good scale for him and I like that he is on the end.
From a comp. standpoint, since he is looking downward, I would be tempted to crop in from the left and add some canvas to the bottom, not a lot.
The light angle was farther to your left than ideal, but you might be able to help with a little shadow recovery if not already done.
Hope to see more of this guy. Gerrie must be a good fellow to loan you his big glass. Buy him a pint or two. :)
Stuart, I like the pose and the sharpness. The framing seems a bit tight. If I got a close-up of one of these guys I might just crop it tight also!! :) Nice clean BG! Fantastic image-well done!
nice one Stu! love his intent stare and the detail you captured. Randy's advice regarding comp is good.
I might also slightly desaturate blue and magenta, but the colours don't look unnatural per se. good eye detail!
This is the crop I had in mind. Not right or wrong, just an option to consider, because of his obvious interest down to the virtual water. I also added a bit of space on top so he didn't seem so crowded.
Randy, your added space on top works well, but I feel the overall crop is too square. I suppose one could bring it in from the left a little to create more of a vertical, but I still feel my OP has the space it needs. ;) Lets see what others say.
With regards to the colours, I didnt touch the saturation, and these guys are amazingly bright and colourful as shot.
