Thrilled with this photo so I did a quick fix just to post it but will really work on it when I return to Florida. I am fly fishing and stopped for about a half hour or so today to take my chances at getting a trout feeding and I was extremely lucky. Am a bit miffed because image events processing greatly desaturated the photo but I added some extra the second go around and it's a little under but close. This is a brown trout and an unlucky grasshopper. I used a horizontal crop but a vertical crop is just as easy. Hope you enjoy the action shot!

"Striking" is the operative word! The colors are also super. You should be proud. When you get home run a bit of noise reduction on the BG.

Matt, I have one word for this shot...amazing! I have never seen one quite like it. Show this to fishing publications and I'll bet you'll have a sale. I would run a bit of noise reduction on it...fascinating image!

Its not very often that I view an image that is completely different to anything I have seen before, but this is one of those times :)

I like the central position which works well, a bit on noise reduction is easy to do and the only thing that would make it better for me is if the grasshopper was more defined, but that may be just because of the small size for web presentation.

great shot! I agree, very marketable...are they normally this broad in the US (down here they're quite slim)? Or is it an optical illusion due to diffraction through the water?

Refraction plays a part in any air/water interface, but we do have a few big ones here. Caught a 22 in brown in the Davidson River near my home just the other day :)

sounds like I must come and cast a bit in your waters Chas :)
biggest I've seen caught here in South Africa was a 3.5kg rainbow trout (not mine unfortunately!)

Optical illusion but the trout where I fish do run decent size. The last few weeks we have been fishing grasshopper patterns pretty hard and since there are so many around the fish are pretty hefty. The bigger fish have been in the 22" - 24" range with 20"+ expected daily on terrestrials, drys, nymphs, and streamers.

Nice job on the 22" brown Chas. They are just starting to color up here.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions and I will work on a few of these when I get home.
