    They are not often seen they skulk round in the grass & undergrowth, not often in the open, the birds of prey love them, not colorful but interesting.

    Nice pose and eye contact. The bird does blend in well but the image seems almost muddy to me, and wish there was a little more hierarchy in composition.

    Does blend in with the BG real well , which is why it seems to need some "pop". Must be hard to get a bird like this against a contrasting BG. I do like the pose,detail,exposure and comp.

    That is one plump little gal (?). One way to pop the bird out a bit is to make a mask and then adjust subject and background
    separately (curves adjustment layers). I would fade the background considerably, something like this:

    I agree with Matthew's critique, and David's repost is an improvement (and the eye looks much better too). I do like the pose, glad you got to photograph one out in the open :-)

    Love the typical alert Francolin pose and the eye-contact. The repost is a great improvement, the subject pops out very well.
