I took this image at Longwood Gardens when I met Dave Mills and Roman K. there. Roman had posted a very similar image of one of these hibiscus, and I just loved it. His version is of course much better than mine-:)
Very interesting shot of the hibiscus. I see them and can never really capture them as uniquely as this. And the dof really does give this depth! Well done with the flash too.
Hey Denise,
Actually this is very close to mine.....the 2nd light of the twin flash helped minimize the shadow more in my version......but you got everything else in yours! Do I see another f32 convert? Nicely done!
Terrific image Denise! I like the DOF. Your concentrating on the inner details of the bloom is very effective. Perhaps a highlight/shadow adjustment could reduce the brightness a bit and saturate the colors more.
I agree with a shadow/highlight adjustment. It's perfectly in focus and it's certainly got extraordinary depth but it feels a little harsh towards the center colors. If you could tone that down just a bit I think you'd have a wonderful image here.
F32 you say? Hmmm... I might have to go visit there some day!
Looking closely at this the stem, the shadow, and the folds in the flower give this very nice depth, you feel like you are being pulled into the flower. I like this a lot. I guess technically it would be better without the slight shadow but not a real big deal in my opinion.
Good job at getting focused detail all the way through this flower--something I've not been able to do with these Hibiscus at Longwood. Unusual coloring in this flower. I don't think the center colors are too harsh. I'm wondering if a slightly different crop might work better. I tried turning image a bit CW, cropped and brightened. Some of the beautiful curls are lost, but I think I prefer the more square crop. I wish I'd left in more of the curl on the UR and LL. What do you think?
