    Peering behavior

Documenting a behavior specific to the species is an important role of the nature photographer, and it should not be overlooked. Moreover, such an image can often prove a marketable entity.

This would be a powerfully compelling photos artistically without even the behavioral merits if the eye were just above water.

Still, it is wonderful to see their mating grounds plumage.

    Peter,

If the eye were above the water the image would not illustrate the "peering" (looking beneath the surface for food) behavior. I do have others as suggested ;)

    Best,

    Chas

Glad you got those others to. Its really what I expected of you.

Thanks for the concept that defines the behavior. I think I would have blown it by only getting the eye above to suggest the behavior and not capture it when I should have doen both. This will help me in the field. Thanks!!!

Wonderful image all around , and the lily pads( if thats what they are) add much to it.

Nice behavior image. The water color and the lily pads add to the composition. Neat to see the way it floats and the way it's head is peering in.

I really like the water the Loon is in as well as your exposure! Well done.
