    Canon 40D, Canon 100mm macro, ISO 400, 1/60, f11, tripod, flash
    PP: no crop, shadows, contrast, colours, sharpness

    Nice image with good composition and balanced flash useage... Interestingly your moths show the same colour cast of the reflective scales on the wings as mine did:

    Does anyone know if this is a possible distinction between male and female moth?

    Yes, this is the difference between male and female. Male is bigger on the left side and on your photo, male is on the right side.
