A male Mulga Parrot photograped near Cunnamulla, south-western Queensland. This bird was intent on feeding and I was able to edge quite close to him.

Canon 40D, EF500mm f/4 + 1.4 tc, gitzo tripod and mongoose flat on ground, angler viewer. ISO 400, 1/400, f/5.6. Cropped for composition, a thin grass stem in front from ventral area to greater coverts digitally removed, and another in background disguised, neat image nr applied to background.

Lovely colours and the PS work to remove the stem looks good, Simon. I find the OOF foreground a bit distracting and it may be an option to crop a bit from below to reduce this and then from the left to rebalance the image. Depending on taste you could blur out the BG a bit more and remove the stalks sprouting from the back. Is that pale speck below the bill a falling seed husk?

The surrounding (including BG and FG) is a bit busy, and that steals some attention.
With that said, the very beautiful and colorful parrot steals it right back...
I like the sharpness, low angle, colors and light.

Nicely captured colors on the feather, I like the low angle, but the fg and bg are a bit distracting. I wonder also how this bird reacted to you and if you could have captured it turning more toward you.

Nice soft light and exposure. I would have moved more to the left for a better body/head angle. Setting is not my favorite.

    Hi Simon
I really like the low angle. Hope you weren't wearing your sunday best !!!!
At first I was in agreement with Tony about the oof foreground but then realised this drew the eye to the parrot.
However could possibly remove a smidgin of the bottom to remove the round dark bit 1/3 in from the left.
    Cheers: Ian Mc

Where was your portable perfect perch with orange over the frame when you needed it. Beautiful bird.

The colors of this bird are amazing. I like the soft light and sharpness. Could you have moved a bit to your left for a better head angle?
