This image of an Asiatic elephant is from my weekends Bandipur Trip. The elephant was digging with her feet.

    Look forward to your comments.

Unusual pose, almost comical Sab, but enjoyable and interesting. The soft lighting suits this very much and TFS.

very unusual - also like the soft lighting and comical pose! I wonder if a flatter panorama crop would suit this better?

    Hi Sabyasachi,
Very unusual pose and the light did help to give nice depth and texture to the elephant. I do normally like tight crops but do wonder if room at base was more important than up top???......nice capture of a behavior we don't get to witness often.

Definitely something I have never seen! The Elephant stands out against the green FG and BG. Great image.

Beautiful color and texture on the elephant. I also like the BG flowers and brush. A somewhat awkward pose (looks like she tripped) but interesting behavior to see and photograph. It seems by the shape of the surrounding depression that this is a regular occurance in this area. Do you know whether she was digging for water or access to minerals in the soil?

    Steve,
It is a salt lick. She was digging for salts. In the dry season, the elephants dig for water as well. By that they avoid drinking contaminated water.

    Roman,
I composed with less space at the bottom as there was a bush with a distracting branch.

The background flowering bushes is Lantana camara. It is a weed that was brought to India as an ornamental flower. This weed has invaded our forests and it is difficult to control it. No solution to control it has been found yet (except for the cumbersome process of repeatedly uprooting and burning)

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

Really funny pose. Good job with capturing the action. I like how the DOF you chose shows the BG with just the right amount of detail.

Hi Sabya, I like the light in this, and you have exposed the hide perfectly. As large as they are, they are capable of sorting themselves out when it comes digging holes in the ground- as you said for salt and water. Great image.

Just returned from Bandipur and it was pouring rains all 4 days :(:D,

I liked this pose , Lovely action and absolute natural colors
I may keep some space in bottom instead of diatracting bushes
