    Here's an image I made off Lake Michigan while I was on vacation last month. I did some selective burning and dodging and really played around with the black and white conversion quite a bit just to see where I could take it. I'm not sure I'm "there" yet but it's getting better.

    Canon 40D, 70-200mm f/4L
    f/11 @ 1/640th, ISO 200
    Manual mode, handheld, bright sun

    Jules, I think you handled the harsh lighting well. I wish the gull was looking just a bit more towards you. Nice placement in the frame. I like the diagonal wave line. Might tone down a few of the bright spots. This looks good in B&W.
