Mike Wilson pointed this beauty out to me and I went after him. He had the debonair aloofness of the Shoveler, but finally I was able to get a few decent ones. Life bird for me :)

Beautiful light and colors. The bird itself could go a tad brighter for my taste.

    Hi Fab,

Love the low angle and warm light. The composition works very well for me. Excellent work!

First off congrats on the new one. That is always an exciting time.

I love the golden reflection off the water but to me it seems to overpower the duck. Maybe as Axel said, a bit brighter would help. But my eye keeps getting drawn away from the bird and toward the background. I do also like the blue in the wake.

A nice one Fabs!! love the blue tones in the wake against the warm water tones. Agree that the Teal could be a little lighter though.

I have to agree with the idea of going lighter here. The eye and the front of the body seems to get lost with the high contrast and bright bg. It is a definite power photo. Perhaps it is just me, but it seems to be swimming out of the frame. Maybe I am just not used to this concept?

Good point about swimming out of the frame. I use this composition whenever there's a wake or interest behind the bird, as long I have space in front. One of this days I'm going to try one really close to the end of frame, just for fun and tension.

Thanks all, I only saw this duck for a couple of minutes, so I don't remember what it looked like too much. I will lighten it :)
