Ed, why would that be surprising? I shoot a Sony A-700, and am very happy with it, yet only a handful of other members use Sony as well, probably 100 to 1-Canon/Sony. I don't see this as being a problem for Sony. Nonetheless, Sony does have a disadvantage, not in their camera bodies, but their lens line-up. Once their 500mm F4 becomes available(hoping later this year, or early next) the playing field will be leveled! regards~Bill
William, I don't mean to offend. The differential in responses seems to me that Sony needs to do more to attract attention. If I were in Sony marketing I would be advocating that things like lens selection and such that seem to be holding Sony back be addressed. An new FF body should be a "big deal" to any camera company. I am a former Minolta film camera fan, so I have a soft spot for the Minolta DNA in Sony's digital SLRs. I hope the new 500 for Sony helps attract more attention.
Ed: I wasn't offended at all. About lens selection, Sony has made a considerable advance with the 70-400G, which is definitely a step in the right direction, and I have found it to be an excellent lens. Until they have the glass to back it up, I don't think Sony's marketing strategy should emphasize, at this point at least, nature photography, and bird photography specifically. regards~Bill
what turned me off from the sony was the noise, there seems to more noise compared to the canon / nikons
sony has made a great advancement in a pretty small timeframe so I think they will continue to do that, which is good for all of us as they are making competition / forcing canon / nikon to keep moving at the very least :)
I agree with Bill, the lack of telephoto lenses has probably hurt them as far as wildlife / birding people, but as mentioned they will address that
I am a Canon user converted from Sony/Minolta. I actually really liked my A700 and my Minolta 300mm f/2.8 ancient lens. Super sharp and a tank of a lens. The only reason I switched was lens selection and price. Sony's prices are getting crazy. I especially liked the fact that you could use you flash remotely without buying any accessories that cost $250+. I wish Canon did that with their flashes. I can't imagine what a 500mm f/4 will cost. $8k?
