    Nikon D70s 70-200VR 200mm 1/1600 f4.5

    I glanced above me and luckily caught this kestrel at the moment it was shoving off. I did not know if I had got anything until later. The crop is 50%, with a few adjustments -- principally levels, contrast and USM, I blew out a bit of white that I could not recover. I feel fortunate to have got anything at all, since kestrels move so quickly. Suggestions, please, for improvements in processing.

    Yes they are tough to catch! Looks nice and sharp nice job with that.

    Not much good with post but the sky looks maybe a bit over saturated to me.

    Wendell you did well under the circumstances Harsh light and overhead subjects is a tough combination As you say you blew the white and still could have used a little more light for the underside

    I would select the head and try to lighten a bit Should be able to do it The sky is also easy Go to saturation blue channel and back off a bit Lots of good things with this image particularly the wing position and sharpness Exposure not bad at all Nothing much you could have done Flash might help but at 1600 the effective range would have been limited by being in high speed sync

    Tried your suggestions and they improved the image a lot . . . thanks . . .
